A new drawing. It still needs some additions, but essentially it’s going to look like this.
New work; paintings on wood, for a new collection of creatures
+20 new pages full of creatures… and I don’t even have my big book of inspiration now! Once I completely move to my new studio, Natural Curiosities of Albertus Seba should give met yet another boost with new ideas.
I will post some new stuff in the very near future…
A second page of creatures. A diversity that can be found in jungles, warm and moist places.
After a long time of silence, I’m working full time as a art teacher at the moment, here is the first finished work I’ve made.
It’s a combination between a regular drawing and digital one. Hope you like it..
As you can see I’ve continued working with a collection as my subject. More of these will follow…
Some time ago I met a biology teacher from a high school at a workshop I gave. She saw what I was doing in my work and I was asked if I would be interested in a dozen or so cabinets dating from the early 1900’s.
Today my studio had a whopping 23 wooden cabinet cases and another 8 wooden/cardboard on the shelves. Some of them are almost intact, so I won’t touch those. Others are all turned into dust, not a single butterfly to see anymore. I will use those cases to collect my own creatures in, like the ones you can see here.
I embedded my work sorted on category on my latest page: www.laurensdeblocq.com/my-work
Here you can see all my work, zoom in, and scroll to the next image. I hope you like it!
Next to the plates of Haeckel and a lot of other copperplate print of the forms of nature, Albertus Seba’s Cabinet of Natural Curiosities has always been a great inspiration for me. Now I’ve used a small copy of the book until now, I’m finally able to buy the original and very large version of Taschens masterpiece. Now I will use these large prints for my new work on drawings and sculptures. To be continued…
